Johnny Hickman – The Great Decline

Johnny Hickman was the front-man, lead singer for the band Cracker. He just released his second solo CD, “Tilting,” which is one of the best of the year so far. This song came from his first solo CD, “Palmhenge,” which was a remarkable release at its time, and has not diminished in the least since then.

Though this song was written and recorded in 2005, it proves by its lyrics that not much has changed in the intervening seven years. I picked this song as one of the best releases seven years ago, and it is still one of my favorite “message” songs. It is still, or maybe even more, relevant today than it was in 2005.
