In 1962 George Martin, the Beatles’ producer, wanted them to record this song, written by another song writer. Lennon and McCartney resisted, only interested in recording their own material at the time, even though they were far from the world-famous group they would become in a couple of years. Finally they gave in and recorded a version of it that was ultimately never released. The song was then given to Gerry and the Pacemakers, another Brian Epstein managed groups, and it became their first number one hit in 1964. This is the Beatles version recorded fifty two years ago.
